Description

The programme is comprised of the following components:

A) Self-study modules, which assessors can work through at their own pace, exploring in detail all aspects of:

- Milestone 1:      Understanding SASC APC Renewal Criteria

An in-depth analysis of each of the APC criteria from SASC; see the process through your APC Reviewer’s eyes and receive hints and tips on how to avoid common pitfalls and stay safe in your practice.

- Milestone 2.i:  Expectations for Report Writing

A detailed exploration of the current expectations for best practice in current report writing.

- Milestone 2.ii:  Evaluating Your Own Report Writing

Checking your report before submission; what constitutes a well written report? This session will talk you through step by step so you feel as confident as possible before sending your report for review.

- Milestone 3: Collating Your CPD Record

Writing your CPD log and meeting expectations in terms of content and areas covered.

Bonus content: Need to Know Stats for SpLD Assessors

A session to revisit the core concepts of statistics in relation to diagnostic assessment, including using stats to best effect with commonly used tests

 B) Monthly* Group Coaching Calls

These structured calls provide the opportunity for programme members to meet with others in a ‘safe space’ to talk about progress and have some accountability.  There is ample times set aside to answer pre-submitted questions from assessors and discussion and reflection is encouraged.  Assessors are invited to attend live and/or access the recording.  Assessors are also encouraged to access recordings of previous coaching calls in the Live Session Vault.  Assessors are aware that guidance cannot be provided that is specific to the profile or report they intend to submit for APC Renewal evidence.
(*NB There are no live calls in August.)

C) One to One coaching

There are 2 x 1.5 hour sessions per month where assessors are invited to participate in one to one coaching via the Voxer app.  This works along similar lines to WhatsApp where the conversation is private and cannot be accessed by other programme participants.  Members are encouraged to check in with the programme leader for accountability and to track progress through the Milestones.  Assessors may also ask questions for individual response, with the proviso that no detail can be provided in relation to the profile or report that will be submitted for APC Renewal evidence.

D) Assessor Resource Library

Within the programme, there is a resource library for assessors to access.  This is comprised of:

  • All key and core SASC documentation relevant to reports and renewal
  • Guide to Qualitative Analysis
  • Course activities and downloads
  • Activity: Pre-16 Testing check
  • Activity: Post-16 Testing check
  • Pre-16 Annotated report proforma
  • Post-16 Annotated report proforma
  • Activity: Your CPD log checklist
  • Useful links

E) Peer Support Zoom Room

An exclusive ‘always open’ APC 1-2-3 Zoom Room for assessors to meet for ‘study buddy’ sessions and peer support

Frequently asked questions

Not at all! Our monthly group coaching sessions are there for you to attend live, or you can review the recording later. Some people thrive on the group interaction, others prefer to stay in the background. The most important thing is you do what works best for you. You can be as vocal or as invisible as you wish!  If you don't attend live you have access to the recordings (including all recordings from previous coaching calls).

There are quite a few assessors who have joined 1-2-3 and Praxis Pro. Pro will give you the broad scale 'general assessment' stuff and 1-2-3 will give you the indepth focused coaching. Pro members also qualify for a 30% discount on the 1-2-3. Please email contact@praxis-cpd.org.uk for details

Absolutely yes- we have 2 Voxer sessions (a bit like Whatsapp) per month where you can have one to one contact with Sally-Ann, talk through your progress, ask any questions and make sure you are staying on track. The only thing that can't be covered is specific profiles and we can't talk about the actual report you intend to submit as evidence for your renewal.

Yes! Some group members have set up 'study buddies' with others from the group.  There is also the opportunity to chat with other groups members in the Facebook group, or meet up in the Zoom room outside our group coaching calls.  You can be as involved (or not) as you wish.  Some assessors have said they have left the programme with a new network of colleagues, and feel much less isolated after this course.

As a member of the APC 1-2-3 programme, you will be given exclusive access to the ‘always open’ APC 1-2-3 Zoom Room.  You can arrange to meet up with other course members  for ‘study buddy’ sessions and peer support.

If you are in your first 3 years of holding an APC, you need to complete 5 hours of SASC authorised CPD for each year, making 15 hours in total, spread across the 3 years.  This needs to be joined by additional CPD hours to cover S1,2,3 criteria.  APC 1-2-3 counts for one of those years.  You will still need to complete additional SASC authorised training, to cover the requirements for the preceding two years.
